1. Why this statement exists
A Simpled smart lock is "goods with digital elements": it combines hardware, firmware and app software. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 we are required to supply the updates (including security updates) needed to keep goods with digital elements in conformity for the period a consumer can reasonably expect given the type and purpose of the product. EU radio-equipment cybersecurity requirements (RED, in force from 1 August 2025) also apply to connected products. This statement explains our support approach.
2. Security updates
2.1 Security-update commitment. We intend to provide security updates for Simpled smart locks until 31 December 2028. We may extend this date, and where we do we will publish the extended date as soon as we can. We reserve the right to extend this date but not to shorten it, and this security-update commitment does not reduce any longer statutory rights you may have (see §2.3). We distinguish this security-update support from general app support, feature updates, cloud/remote availability and third-party-platform support, which are addressed in §§3–5.
2.2 Beyond the stated date, any further updates are provided at our discretion and we make no commitment to continue them. This does not cut down any longer statutory update obligation under §2.3.
2.3 This statement does not affect your statutory rights. Where a longer statutory update obligation applies to your individual purchase under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 (because that is the period you could reasonably expect for a connected security device), that statutory obligation applies to you regardless of the date stated above. Nothing in this statement reduces your statutory rights.
3. How updates are delivered and notified
3.1 App and firmware updates may be delivered through the Simpled app and, where applicable, over the air. Some updates may install automatically where needed to keep your product safe and functional.
3.2 We may notify you of important updates through the app, by email, or on our website. You are responsible for installing supplied updates within a reasonable time after being informed. If you do not, we are not liable for a lack of conformity resulting solely from that failure, provided we told you about the update and the consequences of not installing it.
4. App and platform dependencies
4.1 The app depends on supported mobile operating systems and devices. As operating systems evolve, older versions may stop being supported by their platform providers; where that happens, some app features may change or cease on unsupported OS versions. Your lock's core local locking function is designed to operate independently of the app.
4.2 Remote and cloud-dependent features rely on your internet connection, third-party networks, supported phones and platform policies, and on our cloud services. These may be interrupted, changed, suspended or discontinued, including for reasons outside our reasonable control.
5. End of support and discontinued products
5.1 When a product reaches the end of its supported life, we may stop issuing further updates and may change or cease remote/cloud features for that product. Where feasible, we aim to give reasonable notice before withdrawing a cloud feature that materially affects a product's advertised functionality.
5.2 A change to, or withdrawal of, a remote or third-party feature does not by itself make the physical product defective, and the lock's core local locking function is designed to continue to operate. Your mandatory consumer remedies remain available where a product ceases to conform to the contract or to digital-elements law.
5.3 You can check the current support status for a product on its product page or our support pages.
